Some of the Best Weddings Don’t Look Like Weddings

Some weddings happen in grand ballrooms. Some happen in gardens covered in flowers. And then there are weddings like Katie and Haley’s, where you get married on the stage of your favorite vegan bar surrounded by your closest friends.

The BARK in Tallahassee wasn’t dressed up to look like a wedding venue. It was still their bar. Their people were there. The staff got dressed up for the occasion, the room was full of glitter and floral details, and Haley even played with her band later that night.


And honestly? It was perfect.


Katie and Haley created a day that felt completely like them. Playful, colorful, a little chaotic, deeply queer, and surrounded by the people who actually mattered. There was no pretending this was supposed to look like anyone else’s wedding.

That’s what I loved most about it. They didn’t turn their favorite place into something fancy just because they were getting married. They brought their wedding into a place they already loved, with the people they already loved, and let the whole thing unfold naturally.


It ended up being one of my favorite weddings I’ve ever photographed.

Because sometimes the best wedding isn’t the prettiest place. It’s the place where everyone feels like they belong
